TOURIST GUIDE OF OUR TOWN
1) Introduction.
Malpartida de Plasencia is a town in the province of Cáceres located in the region of
Monfragüe on a mountain 468 meter above sea level. The population is located at a
crossroads of specific routes for ranchers.
The town is the most populated in Monfragüe as well as having one of the biggest municipalities terms in Extremadura. The village is well known for its handicraft leather and the building trade. It had received the title of Villa on the 16 of June of 1961. The population of Malpartida is known by the demonym "Chinatos". It also has a strategic location near the dual carriageway called EX-A1 (which connects Spain with Portugal) and the one called A-66 ( known as Via de la Plata, which connects the north and south of Spain).
2) Cultural heritage.
The most notable cultural heritage of Malpartida de Plasencia is the Church of San Juan Bautista, with a Gothic-Renaissance or late Gothic style, built during the second half of the 16th century. We have to highlight the Gothic mansory and the granitic chair making as well as the façade made by Pedro Esquerro and the Gothic altarpiece made by Agustín Castaño and Diego de Basoco. In the church́ s tower you can see the badge of Plasencia´s bishop Gutiérrez Vargas Carvajal. The floor plant is a single rectangular warehouse divided in 4 sections covered with ribbed, tercelete and warped vaults. A massive tower rises to the north of the first section of the warehouse.
In October of 2018 the Church was declared an Assest of National Interest.

3) Museum.
In April 2021 the old abattoir was transformed into a multi use space which was called
Espacio Matadero de Arte, EMA, Vicente Manzano as a tribute to the local painter. Some of his artwork ,which is collected by the name Luz de ceras, can be seen in the main museum´s room. Moreover you can also admire there different art exhibitions every year.
4) Main events.
Every June month, Malpartida de Plasencia celebrates his own masonry contest. The origin isn't clear but it was invented to spread the love this village has for the construction industry and as a tribute to the builders of our town.
This contest has inspired a tourist circuit where you can admire a duplicate of the pieces that were created for the contest.

In this meadow, we can do several itineraries: We will highlight the hiking path which allows us to visit the sites of Cerro de Castillejos. We will start the route from the access located on Highway CC_18.1. (Kilometric Point: 1.8) to which we will arrive there by car.
